Microtop at Knock Airport

Due to the recent spell of severe weather we experienced here in Ireland, namely the freeze thaw cycle which was the worst in living memory, we were contacted by the Ireland West Knock Airport Authority who were looking for a solution to a problem they had with the surface of the"apron" (where the planes park).
The concrete had been in place for 25 or 26 years and it was the first time such a problem had arisen. The surface had started to deteriorate due to frost damage.
You've all seen it in different locations where the surface of the concrete becomes pitted and breaks away easily leaving some small holes and sometimes some not so small holes on the surface.
Can you imagine what would happen if some of this concrete debris was sucked into an engine of one of those planes? I shudder to think of the outcome.
Stone FX Ltd went on site and together with a local contractor, we laid out a sample area of some 6-7 square metres. This was in comparison to some of our competitors laying a couple of square foot.!!!
The consulting engineer was more than happy with the outcome and gave the go ahead to re-vamp 2250 square metres.
This project has been completed and once again, the planes are parking and turning on this very thin cementitious layer of Microtop. To say this product is innovative is really an understatement as it is probably one of the worlds easiest products to apply and also one of the most versatile.
